Tim Anderson Hoping For Extension With White Sox

Feb 27, 2023 8:25 AM

Tim Anderson hopes to sign a long-term contract extension with the Chicago White Sox.

Anderson, 29, will make $12.5 million in 2023, and his contract includes a $14 million club option ($1 million buyout) for 2024.

"I'm on two option years, and we let it get here and it's like, dang, I kind of want to know where my feet are going to be at the next whatever years it is and I want to know where I'm going to be at," Anderson said. "I'm so comfortable where I'm at now. I'm kind of just really anxious to see what it is, and I would rather be comfortable as quick as I can.

"I have a lot of things that are going on with kids and just family. Being comfortable is huge for me. No, I'm not promoting 'pay me.' It's just that's what's really going on. Everybody knows I want to be here. It's no secret."

Bob Nutting: New CBA Didn't Benefit Pirates Enough

Feb 27, 2023 8:13 AM

Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting is making it clear that he's not a fan of Major League Baseball's economic structure or the current collective bargaining agreement.

"There's no question the CBA contained several things that were not good for the Pirates and very few things that were excellent for us," said Nutting, who reportedly has a net worth of more than $1 billion.

He noted that he voted for the CBA -- rather than casting a "protest" vote against ratification -- because losing the 2022 season would have been bad for both the league and the city.

The CBA, agreed upon last March, is slated to run through the 2026 season.

Feb 21, 2023 7:47 AM

The Chicago Cubs have reached an agreement on a one-year deal with reliever Michael Fulmer.

The right-hander is finalizing a one-year, $4 million contract.

Fulmer pitched for the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins last season, going 5-6 with 3.39 ERA in a career-high 67 appearances.

Fulmer said conversations with former Cubs relievers Andrew Chafin and Daniel Norris cemented his decision to join the team.

"It just kind of confirmed my beliefs of me wanting to be here," he said, "and ultimately, just glad it worked out."

Agent Says Shohei Ohtani Will Probably Explore Free Agency

Feb 21, 2023 1:18 AM

Shohei Ohtani's agent, Nez Balelo, has been consistently coy about his client's contract status, but he hinted Monday at something many in the industry had long assumed -- that Ohtani will probably explore free agency, even if it does ultimately result in him returning to the Los Angeles Angels.

Balelo, who works for CAA Sports, was asked Monday if he'd be open to negotiating an extension for Ohtani during spring training.

Manny Machado Plans To Opt-Out After 2023 Season

Feb 17, 2023 5:51 PM

Manny Machado says he plans to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract with the San Diego Padres after this season.

Machado signed a 10-year, $300 million deal with the Padres in February 2019, a deal that gives him the right to terminate the agreement after this season and become a free agent. The third baseman, who turns 31 in July, would forfeit $150 million from his current deal, which calls for a $30 million annual salary through 2028.

"Obviously, the team knows where I stand, my situation with the opt-out coming,'' Machado told reporters Friday at the Padres' spring training camp in Peoria, Arizona.
